Green Valley Paintout Meet around
8:00 Get together after at 11 :30 Will decide after we see
where we can go. This is with the help of Lois Griffel. Here
are the directions.
I wish I could give you a better name for the area. The sign at the picnic area says something about 'Smithsonian.' However, it is an open public/ picnic area- no fees required, overlooking mountains, an arroyo, picnic tables, and desert scape. Directions: 19 S. pass Continental exit, which is the third exit in Green valley. Take right off 19 S at next exit at Canoa Road. Bear left under overpass. Stay straight to Frontage Rd. Make right on Frontage. Make left turn on Elephant Head Road. (1 - 2 miles or so) After you turn onto Elephant Head Road, about 100 yards there is an opening on the left into a parking area. (I think it has a small ramada.) This is the new trailhead of the Anza Trail, that runs along the Santa Cruz.&n bsp; Water was running a week ago. Elephant head is in the background. To picnic area: Bear left out of parking area onto Elephant Head Road. Continue straight up the mountain. Make a right turn onto Hopkins Rd. There is a sign that says "Whipple Observatory 8 miles." Stay on this road for a few miles. You will eventually see the Smithsonian Area on the right. Jack Wahl 906 1633 22

Saturday 4-19-2008
at 7:30 A.m.
It will be at Magic Carpet Miniature Golf on East Speedway near Wilmot. The owner called Jack and asked if our group would come and paint the statues. This miniature golf location has been know as a Tucson landmark for many years and is closing. The final destination for the sculptures will be at a home-grown fantasy park called Valley of the Moon. They have tried to survive at this park by promoting performance art and great Halloween "fright nights" over the years.
There will probably be press
this Saturday and it will be good for Tpaps' reputation.
Though have everyone come for the fun. The
owner said any "donation" of paintings or cash will go toward
the cost of moving the famous statues. We will be documenting
this colorful gem for posterity.
Call Jack on his cell
520-906-1633 with any questions.
Thanks, Janine
