REPORT on Paint Out: It was a chilly but clear day in Tubac. There was a wide variety of paintings from mountain views to town scenes and old homes. The auction did not sell as much as last year but many happy buyers went home with beautiful pieces and the artists had a good day painting. If you haven't been to Tubac it is a good painting location with also good restaurants and shopping. You'll find lots of subject matter to paint, including the old St. Ann's church, the park at the river, cottonwood trees, horses, mountain views, and washes. 20th: Colossal Cave
a. From east 22nd Street , turn south onto scenic Old Spanish Trail and follow it about 17 miles to Colossal Cave Mountain Park . b. Or, take I-10 east from Tucson to exit 279 (the Vail/Wentworth exit), turn north, and follow the signs for about 7 miles. Website: http://www.colossalcave.com/welcome.html

17th: Annual Meeting at the Desert Museum
This tops them all. We had a spectacular turnout for the Desert Museum paint-out preceding the Annual Meeting. I hate to say it, but I think the pizza that was promised for the afternoon was bate for some of our arrivals. Just the same, we had a beautiful day for all who painted. Many found their spots within the Desert Museum grounds; a few preferred the outer park. Many lovely paintings were produced. A total of painters signed in. These were Norm Sherwood, Pat Bardes, Janine Manemann, Laurie Williams, Don Hall, Susan Fisher, Jean Ranstrom, Lois Griffel, Marsha Davis, Nichole Vick (guest), Patty Rosky, Bob Garden, Russ Recchion, Betty Bloom, Judith D’Agostino, Barb Mulleneaux, Carole Beckwith, Jack Wahl, Louise Davis, Lynn Sanguedolce, Kurt Anderson, Terry Bowman, David Thompson, Tom Morgan, Roger Alderman, Barb Simcoe, Lil Leclerc, Mary Martin, Michael McClure, Heather O'Connor. Carole Beckwith , TPAPS Paint-out chairperson
Ten painters participated on Saturday despite the chilly day and persistent breeze. All the paintings produced were very nice. Contest winners were: 1st place to Doug Martin, 2nd place to Bob Goldman, 3rd place to Lois Griffel. After the judging, the parks representatives took four of us on an interesting tour of the house and provided us with history of the ranch. March
3rd: Tohono Chul
Park Fees: $5 adults, $4 seniors (62+) Website: http://www.tohonochulpark.org/ We had gorgeous weather for our paint-out and Quick Draw at Tohono Chul. The weather forecast was for fairly high winds but, miraculously, all was still and sunny at Tohono Chul. It couldn’t have been a prettier day. We held the Quick Draw as planned from 9:30-10:30. Four winners were chosen to correspond to the four prizes we had. Winners were: 1st place to Roger Alderman, 2nd place to Lois Griffel, 3rd place to Jean Ranstrom, and 4th place to Marsha Davis . The winners paintings were gorgeous, as were a few more. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. I was surprised at how cleverly our group found such good subjects to paint. The group expressed a wish to have more time that the one hour allotted today for the Quick Draw. Thus, I will change the next Quick Draw to be two hours. A total of 15 painters signed in; 12 participated in the Quick Draw. Attendees were Roger Alderman, Kurt Anderson , Carole Beckwith , Terry Bowman, Judith D’Agostino, Louise Davis, Marsha Davis , Bob Garden, Lois Griffel, Tom Morgan, Roseanne Munger, Heather O’Connor, Jean Ranstrom, Norm Sherwood, Barb Simcoe. Those of you who missed today’s event can paint Tohono Chul this coming Tuesday with a group of Weekday Painters who regularly paint there on the first Tuesday of the month when admission is free. Thanks to all who attended and helped with the voting. Carole Beckwith , TPAPS Paint-out chairperson Quick Draw Winners! Roger Alderman 1st Place Lois Griffel 2nd Place Jean Ranstrom 3rd

hosted event. Winners participate in a group show at the end of the year. 17th: Sabino Canyon with Bob Goldman Demo Report Sabino Canyon, March 17, 2007 Our paint-out and Goldman demo at Sabino Canyon on March 17, 2007 was a great success. Fifteen plus painters turned out despite the unseasonably hot sunny day. Bob Goldman had graciously offered to have us watch and learn while he painted two paintings. There were 12, at the peak attendance, watching Bob demonstrate his procedures on his first painting. The sun was too hot for me to stay for the second painting without an umbrella. As I was leaving, the first person was arriving to watch the second demo. I don’t know if many came for that painting. I know everyone in the first group was delighted to watch Bob’s painting emerge. He made a delightful painting while demonstrating his simplification methods and artful brushwork. Among other things, he makes those tough teddy bear cholla’s look so easy. After I left the demo area, I took the tram around its route to see how things looked since the flood damage and repairs. The creek bed had recovered nicely from the heaps of sand and was now showing stones, boulders, and plant life. Water was running in the creek and there was a nice sprinkling of people enjoying the canyon and it’s water. Children were playing and wading in the stream. A couple of Sycamores on the route made a spectacular sight as they had not yet leafed out; their full trunk and branch structure was awesome. Other trees glowed with their early foliage. Mule deer were spotted and photographed leaping thru the area (photo). On the way up the tram tour, I spotted a couple of beastly impressive painters standing in front of their easels (photo). I can only guess at the fine paintings that must have come out of that part of the canyon. We had 15 people sign-in. I think there were a couple more. Those who I know attended were Fred Wackerle, Gail Munden , Janice Fletcher, Suzie Hanley (Guest), Margot Dinardi, Norm Sherwood, Bob Goldman, Tom Morgan, Judith D’Agostino, Roger Alderman, Heather O’Connor, Barb Mulleneaux, Baylee Nealon, Patty Rosky and myself. Lets hope our last four paint-outs will be blessed with cooler temperatures. Of course, the last two are at higher elevations and are thus cooler locations. Power to the Painters, Carole Beckwith, TPAPS Paint-out chairperson Bob Goldman Demo (see link to watch Bob paint)

Only two people I know of made it to this paint-out. Others I know were scared off by the early morning rain. I missed it only because I was in a workshop in Tubac. It was reported to be clearing and sunny by 8:30AM at the park as I experienced on Rt 19 to Tubac. Thereafter it was a glorious day for painting and whatever! Our two fearless painters were Norm Sherwood and Bill Hartmann. Bill provided the feedback (which I slightly modified) and photos for this report (as he said, “for the Great Golden Record Book of TPAPS Paintouts”). Thank you Bill. Norm Sherwood painted in the wash behind the visitor center. Bill set up below a Palo Verde at the South end of the lot. The photos are Norm Sherwood painting in the wash, and Bill’s nearly complete painting from that day of Palo Verde in spring. Bill says he was experimenting with impasto effects on the blossoms! Well done. Bill reports he counts this as a successful paint-out. I say “ditto” to that. Carole Beckwith, TPAPS Paint-out Chairperson Directions: |

May It was a beautiful day if you could tolerate a little wind and a dash of cloud cover (25%). It was pretty breezy in the parking lot but down in the wash it was just exhilarating. We had a small turnout of just five people. I guess the location wasn’t popular or everyone had already gone to their summer location. Jack Wahl did a painting demo from within the wash. He got a late start due to complexities but turned out a fine demo and painting when he got started. We spent some time before the demo discussing art and painting details. I discovered a pile of rocks that fit me like a custom hammock. Thus, I listened to the art discussions in great comfort. The attendees for this great day were Jack Wahl, Heather O’Connor, Norm Sherwood, Barb Simcoe and Carole Beckwith. Thank you to Jack Wahl for sharing is knowledge and time with us~~
It was a BEAUTIFUL DAY up at Rose Canyon Lake . Only five of us showed up. I have to say to you others that you REALLY MISSED IT. The air was comfortable and balmy. The fisherman and painters alike were in a high mood. Most of our painters arrived very early and thus had no parking problems. However, the lot was nearly full when I arrived around 8AM. This was due to the many parents and kids that had come to fish. I got some cute photos of kids holding their poles and looking oh-so-serious. I may paint one of them this summer. The crowd was not so large as to interfere with painting; just enough to make a mild happening. Our crowd of five was: Heather O’Connor, Norm Sherwood, Janine Manemann, Bob Goldman and myself, Carole Beckwith. Nice paintings were produced as can be seen in the photos. Since my tour of duty as Paint-out Chairperson concluded at Noon, three of us stopped for lunch after the paint-out to celebrate. We discussed painting this summer. Anyone who wants to paint outside this summer can call me. I know of a few people who plan to paint all summer. I think I can hook you up. May 18 - 25,26, 27 * Paint in the Pines at the Joyous Lake Gallery in Pinetop was a complete success with many lovely paintings completed. If you are up in the cool country stop by the gallery.
SP July 14th State Park Paint-out at Tonto Natural Bridge. This little oasis just has lush green grounds, a homestead, apple trees, waterfall and full flowing creek. This is truly an unusual setting you will not find anywhere else. The area around the park is full of juniper and wonderful views. Down in the canyon where the park is located has picnic grounds and lots of trails. The spectacular waterfall with moss and unusual plants and birds make it a worthwhile trip. Check the State Park page for details. This is open to any painters of any medium. Any questions: write to Cindy at cindyLcarrillo@yahoo.com
